Maintaining Print Destinations

Print Destinations allow companies to set the printers to which Part Forms and Report Layouts will print without requiring the user to select from a list. Print Destinations are also useful in situations where companies will have multiple printers associated to a production "line" or specific packaging area. For example, a company may have 2 printers in the line 1 and line 2 packaging rooms printing the same labels. 1 printer is a label printer printing a 4x6 case labels and 1 printer will be a sheet printer printing an 8x11 skid sheet.

The Print Destinations feature includes a hierarchy enabling companies to specify which printers to use based on the Shop Area or Facility where various business operations such as production and shipping occur. If a printer is manually selected, any Print Destination overrides (Facility, Shop Area, Part Form, or Report Layout) will be ignored. This applies to the main application as well as the Warehouse Management System.

Print Destinations hierarchy for Job type documents

  • Shop Area Print Destination
  • Facility Print Destination
  • Part Form/Report Layout Print Destination
  • Selected printer

Print Destinations hierarchy for all other document types

  • Facility Print Destination
  • Part Form/Report Layout Print Destination
  • Selected printer
  • Sales Specific Print Destinations hierarchy (beginning in version 17.04.004)
  • User record
  • Ship-To Facility (Match both facility and Ship-To defined on the sales document being printed)
  • Bill-To Facility (Match both facility and Ship-To defined on the sales document being printed)
  • Ship-To record
  • Bill-To record
  • Facility record

The hierarchies are created by assigning Print Destinations to the different forms and records listed above. When printing Part Forms or Reports Layouts the system will check to see if the "Print Destination" field for these forms and records are populated and use the appropriate hierarchy to determine the printer to which documents will be sent. Beginning in version 17.00.021, Print Destinations may be defined on a user by user basis and supports scenarios where printing multiple documents on different printers. See the link in the previous sentence for additional information.

Print Destinations may be used in the main DEACOM application and the Warehouse Management System application. Note that the use of Print Destinations is optional.

FAQ & Diagnostic Tips

Is it possible to set up a Report Layout to print not just from a specific printer, but a specific drawer on that printer?

Yes. Add the desired printer to the server twice (or more depending on how many drawers it has), each with a different default tray in its properties.
